The Dogs
The Dogs
THE DOGS grew up in the Lansing/Detroit/Ann Arbor late 60’s music scene. THE DOGS rocked hard, fast and precise (energy-maniacs onstage they may have been, their proficiency as teens cast them practically as rock prodigies) with their own original songs from the get-go. They opened for the likes of MC5, Stooges, Amboy Dukes with Ted Nugent, SRC etc. etc. etc. throughout the late '60s/early '70s.

By late 1973 THE DOGS moved to NYC opening for Kiss, The Stilettos (proto-Blondie,) Television and all manner of punks watchful of THE DOGS' pared-down but hardcore Detroit rock performed in their own torn jeans and leather jackets ("Our normal street clothes because," laughs bassist MARY KAY, "we couldn't afford stage clothes.") Relocation to Hollywood mid-decade would find them opening for AC/DC, The Ramones, Van Halen, The Motels, Y+T, New Order.

1978 saw THE DOGS move to the UK to live and tour in support of the now legendary "Slash Your Face" EP on their own distributed Detroit Records. After great reviews and packed shows the band ended up squatting in vacant houses living on the streets of London because of the bands financial backing pulled out. When the band returned to LA the scene had changed and the band broke up. The rock and roll dreams of not being signed to major label took their toll on the band.

From the time they stopped performing as "The Dogs", their early singles started to be sold in the underground scenes of Europe and Japan for several hundreds of dollars each due to a base of fans made up of mid 70's to late 70's Detroit type punk fans. Due to this activity, a new generation discovered The Dogs.

The classic Detroit sound was vindicated though thousands of rock fans and bands, continuing to this very second. And THE DOGS' reputation via the emerging internet had accelerated their doggy tale into its present, deserved status of bona fide, singular, committed, hardest rock/power trio/punk rock legends.

In 2000 Lee Joseph from Dionysus Records released the compilation LP called "Fed Up" of the 70's singles and tracks were recorded live in San Francisco for the "Slash Your Face" 1978 EP. 2001 saw the band playing shows in the LA area. The "Suburban Nightmare” LP on Dionysus came out in 2003.

In the Far East of the globe, an aggregate of 29 assorted Japanese alt-punk bands styled an entire tribute cd to THE DOGS entitled "Doggy Style," by Detroit Jack's Future Now Records. Then came THE DOGS' tour of Japan in 2007 to capacity-filled venues of rabid Dogs' fans.

2009 saw the band play the SXSW Festival in Austin & the NXNE festival in Toronto. In 2013 they were asked back to play the SXSW Festival and a return trip to Tokyo for 5 shows.

In Jan 2016 the band’s newest release will be a new 4 song 7” vinyl release of titled “Ain’t Going Nowhere on Elvis Cortez’s label Smelvis Records.

For THE DOGS-Mary Kay, Loren Molinare & Tony Matteucci, their enduring credo was Do It Anyway, come hell, high water or against the foremost enemy of rock and roll, the passage of time. Just... Do It Anyway.
Atlantic Thrills
Atlantic Thrills
"Garage Rock" has been cut up into so many subgenres and had its gene pool polluted to the point where it's difficult to remember what an honest to goodness garage band even sounds like anymore. Let Atlantic Thrills remind you. There are a lot of groups today playing in one corner of the genre, playing the same old song over and over - some do it well, some not. But there aren't many bands that can play across the board, any style - agitated punkers, reverb-drenched wailers, drug-soaked psych-outs, beach party anthems, moody slow burners, twanged-up poppers - the Thrills provide you with all of that, and in spades. As great as "Day At The Beach" was as a single, don't let it fool you into thinking these guys are all sunshine and kegs - there's lots to brood on here, plenty of shadows and alleys to wander in the midst of the partying and dancing. Good and evil, yin and yang, uppers and downers, rock and roll, Atlantic Thrills play it all across the duration of this LP, a hot dozen cooked to perfection in the studio and laid on wax for your pleasure. One of the best true garage rock records to come down the pike in some time, and perfect listening to help make spring and summer seem that much closer - or at least keep you warm until then.
