Sonya Kitchell
Sonya Kitchell
Sonya Kitchell has embarked upon something entirely new, joining forces with Neal Evans (Jack White, Soulive) to form the music of psych-pop band “&Co.” Combining irreverent, unhurried vocals that tip their hat to likes of Roberta Flack and Lesly Gore, Kitchell’s melodies soar over gritty Stacks-like guitars, layered with space-age synths and breakbeats provided by Evans. Their sound hints to influences of groups such as Broadcast and the Kinks, providing an electric shock to a classic sound. Undeniably infectious and unapologetically raw, &Co finds its roots in the past while creating something distinctly their own.

Her prolific, illustrious career is marked by collaborations with respected artists, including Joni Mitchell, Wayne Shorter, Jackson Brown, Reggie Watts, Blake Mills, The Barr Brothers, Dap Kings, Ben Harper, Tal Wilkenfeld, Stewart Lerman, Malcolm Burn & Damien Rice. In 2012 she became a permanent touring member of legendary Danish shoegaze band, Blue Foundation, penning several songs on their latest release Bloodmoon (2017). Kitchell has graced the stage at numerous landmarks & festivals among them; Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Newport Folk Festival and Central Park Summerstage. Her televisions appearances include Late Night with David Letterman, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, CBS Morning Show and Live at Abbey Road.

Her latest self-produced release We Come Apart explores the remnants of things, the space in between our atoms. The album represents years of Kitchell’s learning from masters, unlearning expectations, and re-emerging as a vivid, fresh voice.
