Hans Chew
Hans Chew
A native Tennessean, Chew’s style has been described in wide fashion, with comparisons to artists like James Booker, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Feat, Nirvana, Little Richard, and Leon Russell. “My grandfather sang harmony on Sundays in a little country church quartet and in the evening I’d hear him pickin’ and grinnin’ that 'high lonesome sound' of Jimmy Martin and Hank Williams out on the carport with his brothers. My mother turned me on to Hendrix and the Stones, but my father listened only to classical music: I knew Beethoven’s Fifth before Led Zeppelin’s fourth.”

Perhaps best known for his keyboard work with other artists like D. Charles Speer, Jack Rose, Endless Boogie, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Steve Gunn, Hans Chew has established himself as a versatile singer, songwriter and performer in his own right. His 2010 debut album Tennessee & Other Stories was heralded by Uncut as one of the top 25 albums of the year.

Also a dynamic live performer, iTunes’s Music Editor sums it up: “Hans Chew cranks up the tempo and the manic rock ’n’ roll performance until it feels like you’ve landed in the early ‘70s, when Derek & The Dominos were piecing together Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and The Rolling Stones were waiting around Nellcote to record the bits and pieces of Exile on Main St.”

Chew lives and works in New York City.
Garcia Peoples
Garcia Peoples
Top down, tunes up and cruising out of the Jersey suburbs into yr heart are Garcia Peoples and their debut LP "Cosmic Cash" on Beyond Beyond is Beyond. Originally a quartet (Tom Malach and Danny Arakaki on guitars, Cesar Arakaki on drums, Derek Spaldo on bass) but recently beefed up into a five-piece with PG Six (Tower Recordings, Wet Tuna) on keys, Garcia Peoples are just what our little psychedelic corner of the world needs right now…fun.

"Cosmic Cash" effortlessly heaves joy. The low-key vocal hooks and melodies snag you quickly and don’t let go, not unlike mid-period NRBQ but loaded up on youthful longing and hallucinogens rather than RC Cola and Moon Pies.

And then there are the jams, oh the jams! More reined in than recent live action, "Cosmic Cash" delivers sparkling twin leads, barreling keys and bubbling rhythms recalling the Dead’s tightest, most simple studio work, the Allmans’ most radio-friendly moments and the Band’s early 70s output.
