Heartstop Music presents a rare treat of internationally acclaimed singer-songwriters in the intimate setting of New York City’s Union Pool. Featuring Marlon Williams (NZ), Julia Jacklin (Australia), The Weather Station (Canada) and Joshua Hedley (US), this will be a special one-time event, ahead of three of the acts performing at Newport Folk Festival.

Marlon Williams
Marlon Williams
“Each song is a character,” says Marlon Williams of his self-titled solo debut: a remarkably assured and diverse nine-track tapestry, united by one of the most versatile and evocative voices you’ll hear this or any other year. “I don’t really ever sing out of character. Even if it’s a very personal song, once it’s written it doesn’t belong to me.”

His album was released internationally in February 2016 through Dead Oceans, and Williams has spent 2016 selling out shows throughout North America and UK/Europe, playing major festivals including Latitude, Longitude, and Austin City Limits, and making appearances on tastemaker radio shows like NPR, KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, KEXP and World Cafe, plus performances on legendary TV shows Later With Jools Holland, Conan and The Late Late Show in Ireland.

Williams won Best Male and Breakthrough Artist at the 2015 New Zealand Music Awards and was nominated for Best Blues & Roots Album at the ARIA Awards, alongside nominations for the coveted Taite Music Prize and Australian Music Prize.
Julia Jacklin
Julia Jacklin
Julia Jacklin grew up in the Blue Mountains, NSW. As a kid, she sang. First classical music, then pop-punk tunes in a high-school covers band. By the time she moved to Sydney in her early 20s, she’d cobbled together sketches of her own – observational folk songs laced with a melancholic ache, but buoyed with a wry humour and Jacklin’s rich, distinctive voice.

Her debut album Don’t Let The Kids Win has been a critics favourite, featuring on numerous end of year lists in 2016, and Jacklin has enjoyed milestone moments like nominations for APRA Australian Song of the Year, Album of the Year at the Triple J Awards, featuring on NPR’s Tiny Desk Series, and selling out the Metro Theatre in Sydney, performing to 1200 hometown fans singing back every word.

This summer she performs at many of the worlds biggest festivals including Glastonbury, Roskilde, FYF, Newport Folk Festival, Splendour In The Grass and more ahead another headline tour of North America in the fall.
The Weather Station
The Weather Station
The Weather Station is the project of Canadian songwriter Tamara Lindeman; folk music based in classic elements of songcraft – melody, tension, meaning. On the acclaimed All Of It Was Mine, and follow-up What Am I Going To Do With Everything I Know, (both for You’ve Changed Records) Lindeman established herself as a songwriter’s songwriter, earning accolades for her delicate, carefully worded verse, filled with double meanings, complex metaphors, and rich details of the everyday.

Lindeman’s third record, Loyalty, was recorded at LaFrette studios, just outside of Paris, in collaboration with Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas) and Robbie Lackritz (Feist). It was released in May 2015 on Paradise of Bachelors (US/ Europe), Outside Music (Canada), and Spunk Records (Australia). The record received acclaim from Pitchfork, Uncut, The Guardian, The Globe And Mail, The Fader, and turned up on numerous year end lists
Joshua Hedley
Joshua Hedley
For years, Joshua Hedley has been making a name for himself as Nashville’s right hand man. Known as the “mayor of lower Broadway” by collaborators and comrades, Hedley is a fixture at Robert’s Western World, where he plays for tips with his band the Hedliners. The multi-talented singer-songwriter has played fiddle with Justin Townes Earle, Robert Ellis and Jonny Fritz. Now Music City’s favorite son is breaking out on his own, signing to Third Man Records and due to release his debut solo material later this year.
